Hola amigos! This week I am introducing Kam from Campfire Chic on Etsy! We did a little interview for ya!
Tell us the basics about yourself! Name, age, location, the meaning of life…
I’m Kam, a 24-year-old crafty camper currently residing on the border of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. I like to live life on the edge…or at least on the border. I hear the fireworks from Disneyland every night, can see the ocean from the top of my street and views of Downtown LA from the closest freeway. I don’t know if there is an actual meaning to life, but it’s sure a hell of an adventure!
That sounds pretty awesome! I can see the top of Fenway Park from my apartment and hear lots of drunk and rowdy fans stumble off to the cars singing O-Town songs really loudly after games. That sounds annoying but I really do like Boston. You had this ADORABLE cross-stitch in your shop recently of two little mugs in an adorable decorative hoop, and it has sold (super sad face) what was the inspiration? Will you be making more?

It sold the day it was on the front page in your wonderful treasury! I will be making more…otherwise I have to change my avatar! That’s just too much thinking, if you ask me. I think I’m going to make them on several colors…what do you think? Pink? Red? Green?? I originally stitched it up because Boyfriend and I have two cute blue enamel mugs! Most of the things I create are inspired by our adventures :)
Awh that is truly adorable! Yes, you will need to make more! I think a hunter green one would be beautiful! Your profile tells me you are pretty outdoorsy, tell us more about the adventures you go on! It seems like your love of nature and being outdoors influences your art as well and this gives your shop such a great feel! Also, your shop name is great.
I’ve been a lover of the outdoors all my life. Heck, I got to take my first swim before I was even born when my mom fell into a lake while trying to get into a boat to go fishing! I was doomed from the start, I suppose. I love camping, and Boyfriend and I have this crazy dream of visiting all the US National Parks before we die. That’s 58 parks including one in American Samoa! I’ve gone to four so far. We also hiking and camping in Big Bear and Mammoth Lakes (both of which are in California). Did I mention geocaching? Because we do that, too! It’s tons of fun and adds some risk to everyday activities ;)

I hope you get to all of them! That is a really wonderful goal! I have been kind of fixated on going out west maybe to Yellowstone, ever since I came home from Texas where I spent spring break doing Habitat for Humanity. (We painted the entire exterior of a house with 3 inch brushes!) I just really want to put my feet in the Colorado River. I know that doesn’t sound super adventurous but it would mean a lot to me. I went to the The Grand Canyon once but I don’t think I appreciated it very much then. Also, that is really funny about your mom and your first swim! Your shop is pretty new, just opened this summer! Were you scheming about it long before you actually launched?
I’ve always loved Etsy. It’s like crack for crafters/lovers of handmade items, but I never thought I would have my own shop. The idea for the shop came when Boyfriend and I were camping in Sequoia National Park. I recently graduated and needed something to keep my occupied while I conduct a job search…I figured it was better to open a shop than play Sims 3 all day! However, I think my Sims would be pretty rad-tastic right about now! But I digress. We spent the weekend brainstorming and coming up with some crazy ideas. I bought the postcards you see in my shop and two weeks after we got home Campfire Chic launched.
Etsy is totally addictive! I ADORE Etsy and I probably spend too much time browsing and hearting and making treasuries but I love it! There is absolutely something to be said about mindless Sim-playing though. I have never actually played myself but I have other similarly mindless things I like to distract myself with… Do you have a background in art or any formal education? How did you start crafting and making things?
Nothing too formal about my crafting! I have degrees in Kinesiology and Higher Edcuational Leadership…nothing to artsy or crafty about them ;). I started crafting at a young age. I liked making anything and everything. I was even on TV once making a few crafts at Home Depot…super random fact!
That’s so funny, I have considered going back to school for a degree in something similar to your leadership one! I was a student leader in college, which was really awesome. I love those little books you have with the

No clue what happened to the rest of this… I was just going to say I really loved them and never wrote the word “postcards”. Anyway, I really love the little notebooks. *shrug

I asked Meredith what her favorite kind of cheese was, I’m curious if you have a favorite as well? Any other favorites you’d like to share with us?
ASIAGO! I love cheese, but it’s a bittersweet relationship because I’m lactose intolerant…TMI or slightly endearing? You decide! I love asiago cheese bagels…I will go out of my way to get one. Nom nom nom. I’ll be honest, I like cheese in all forms: nachos, string cheese, hot pockets, cheesecake, grilled cheese sandwiches…you name it!
Ugh i looooove grilled cheese! I eat a fair amount of my meals at Panera and I have noticed they have this kind asiago bagel, but I have never tried it. Maybe on my next visit. I consider cheese to be the cornerstone of any good meal. Show us a photo we can’t see on Etsy! Doesn’t have to be relevant in any way.
