Realistic and Concise Advice for Makers in Business { + Season 7 Listening Guide} | Episode 127

I can’t believe we’ve made it this far! We’re back with more realistic and concise advice for makers in this, the seventh season of The Merriweather Council Podcast!

When I first started this show, I didn’t know what to expect and didn’t plan that far ahead; I outlined one season, that was that.

I know the podcast has been a companion to so many makers while working in the studio, working around the house, commuting, or any other times and we are glad that we can use the power of technology in this way to reach you.

What is the merriweather council

At the start of each season, I like to introduce myself and The Merriweather Council to welcome new listeners, and of course, I want to thank all of our listeners, new or old. We are so honored to be a tiny part of your big dream.

Everything we do here at the Merriweather Council is to provide support to makers in turning their crafty tendencies into profits by defining their unique vision and mission and using tools like Shopify and Etsy.

What to expect

Firstly, you’ll be hearing from me, Danielle, the chief bossy pants here at the Merriweather Council, primarily on this show.

When the show is in a live season, you can expect episodes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This season happens to include American Thanksgiving, so except for that Thursday, that’s what you can expect. To learn more about me and my maker story, listen to the episode I did last season with my friend Chereen, where she interviewed me! You can also listen to the intro episodes for our other seasons as those also provide more on my story!

a bit about me

The most current/quick stats info is that I live in Omaha, Nebraska, with my husband, and the Merriweather Council has been providing advice for makers in business now for five years! And I’m heading into my 11th year of being a maker in business myself. I do want to take the opportunity to say definitively I am not an Etsy Coach. I am a handmade business mentor, our business provides resources for makers in business, and one of those is our Etsy training course — where we teach you how to make better use of this amazing tool. We teach Etsy and speak on it, but I am not an Etsy coach the same way you aren’t exclusively an Etsy seller and nothing more. We are handmade business mentors – many handmade businesses can and could benefit from Etsy, so it’s PART of what we do.

Season 7 listening guide

There are some things you should know about The Merriweather Council to make the most of your listening experience and have a better understanding of what we do and how we do it!

We honor, acknowledge, and prioritize your role as an autonomous business owner.

You will have your own set of things that works for you. We want to help you build your toolkit. Every single thing can’t apply to every single business. We want to provide advice for makers, and if something doesn’t work for you, another bus is coming! Again, we drop episodes 2x a week during our live seasons, once on Tuesday and once on Thursday.

We’ve chosen a position, it’s ours, and it doesn’t have to be yours.

There are some topics and concepts that I feel very strongly about. Just because that is how I feel doesn’t mean it has to be how you feel! Again, we all get to be autonomous and make our own choices in our businesses. We can understand different positions without agreeing.

I want MORE for you!

More depth and enjoyment in your business and more confidence to decide what’s right for you. More insights based on facts. More support for the business you WANT to run… not the one you think you’re supposed to run. More nurturing your own business and less noise.

We know you have more than enough tips, tricks, and hacks. What you need now is realistic and concise advice for makers like yourself.

So we are looking to provide something new and fresh. It might be different from what you’re used to. For me, that’s a good thing! We HOPE it’s different.

Running a sustainable business/ turning a profit isn’t luck.

Pricing for profit is a science, not a gamble. We can get into the nitty-gritty of that another time, but it’s important to note! If you go to and search pricing, you’ll find lots of info.

You shouldn’t prioritize anything above your own vision and mission.

Not algorithms, not trends… nothing. Take what you need or want from various avenues and create an apparatus to get where you want to go!

We are flexible on the details, but the vision is something we are pretty strict about.

Some things change, but some things stay the same! My opinions might change over time about specifics- I’m willing to flex on the specifics, but I’m pretty strict about the vision. Also, things outside of me change constantly, so when it comes to facts and figures, be sure to check for updates as episodes age.

As always, we like to get the season started with more than one episode, so the first official episode of season seven is ready for you now, too!
